The day of reckoning will have arrived. Thomas and Andrena, being their usual organised selves will hopefully have everything
in place and today will be the day of 'final checks'. They know what lies ahead and it is vital they pack everything they
need - spares, equipment and tools for the bikes, food, drinks and clothes for their own survival as well as the many many
donations that have been made for the children's orphanage which will be visited during their feat.
Bearing in mind that nearly 12 months of planning and preparation have all pointed to this day. Both Thomas and Andrena
will have gone through incredible measures to ensure they are as ready as possible for this trek.
One would be naive in the least if they dismissed the obvious health risks that are posed in such a climate and as such,
a vast array of vaccinations must be administered before international departure. These injections, for both our cyclists,
include:
Diphtheria / Tetanus / Polio (1 vac)
Hepatitis A / Typhoid (2 vac)
Hepatitis B (3 vac)
Jap B Encephalitis (3 vac)
Rabies (3 vac)
After they decided to take on this feat, DiabetesUK sent them a 4-5 page document on all the health risks involved. The
others, not listed above include Malaria, Meningitis and Yellow Fever. Some less serious conditions include DVT, 'Culture
Shock', diarrhoea, dehydration, sunburn, animal bites (some deadly) as well as other insect borne diseases.
Nevertheless, a good nights sleep and a deep breath should complete the final preparations for the night before...
